Total population of Senegal is about 14 million inhabitants, a quarter (¼) of which living in the capital, Dakar.
The population is composed by different ethnic groups: Wolofs (35%), Pulaars (25%), Sereres (20%), Diolas (08%), Mandingues, Bassaris, etc.), each of them having its own culture, proper tongue and specific traditions.
The ethnic groups are living in a perfect harmony thanks to the kinship jokes, a social regulatory system, performed through pleasantries that allow members of certain ethnic groups to tease and even criticize others jokingly.
The country is also composed by a majority of Muslims (around 95%) and minority religious groups (Christians, Animists), living in an exemplary pacific coexistence.
